Can Anyone be Hypnotized?

Updated: May 2, 2021

Many times, you may hear someone state quite profoundly that, "I can't be hypnotized." And they may have been to a hypnotist and not responded in the expected manner. True, the hypnotist may not be any good, but what about the seasoned ones who have been doing it for years? Do they ever fail? Is there a person who is so smart and strong-willed that they simply cannot participate? Hold onto your hat, because you will not want to miss this answer to this mind-boggling question, because the answer doesn't lie in the hypnotist much at all given they're doing it correctly.

Isn't Hypnosis Smoked Mirrors and Flashing Lights?

While this approach would most certainly create a stunning and exciting show, that isn't what clinical hypnosis does. But don't be too upset, because after the hypnotherapy session, the vast majority of people feel as if a huge weight has been lifted from their shoulders. In fact, look around at various notable websites from Harvard and the United States Government to WebMD and Healthline. They all have positive things to say about hypnosis. And not to put a damper on the entertaining hypnotists, because they can be tons of fun at school or at a club, but that style is generally placing people under quick, with a snap of the fingers for a light trance. Clinical hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, takes about ten minutes to go under and the client may stay in the state for about an hour, depending on what they are working on.

Regardless of who you are, you can be hypnotized just as you can fall in love. Perhaps you choose not to, or perhaps you're not ready. But inevitably you can given the correct hypnotist who's accurately trained, knows what he or she is doing, and you're in the mood. Here's Mike Mandel, a renowned hypnotherapist, giving his description of what happens with hypnosis when the participant is willing.

So the word is that if you proclaim, "I can't be hypnotized," you're probably correct. But if you're basing it off of a past experience or someone who didn't take their education of it seriously or become certified, perhaps you ought to try someone new when you're ready. Think about it, take the test, and let's see how we can help.
